Boat Registration Number Decals
Cut vinyl numbers, pre-spaced on clear transfer tape. You get two sets: one for each side of the bow.
The rules: plain block letters at least 3 in tall, in a color that contrasts with the hull, on both sides of the bow, with a space or hyphen one letter wide between the groups (FL 1234 AB). We set the size and spacing for you. Some states add their own rules: pick yours under “State requirements”.
Your registration number
Please check your number. Most look like two letters, up to four numbers, then one or two letters (FL 1234 AB). We'll cut it as shown.

Font
Plain block letters only, so they're easy to read and meet the rules.
Vinyl color
A black background isn't available with black vinyl.
Low contrast: pick a color that stands out clearly from the hull. The rules ask for lettering that contrasts with the background.
A line is longer than 60 in. Please shorten it (for example, abbreviate the company name).
Boat registration numbers: details & FAQ
Cut vinyl registration numbers for both sides of the bow, spaced the way the rules ask. Type your number above, check the preview, and we cut exactly what you see.
What are the rules for boat numbers?
Plain block letters at least 3 in tall, in a color that contrasts with the hull, on both sides of the front half of the boat. Groups are separated by a space or hyphen the width of one letter (for example FL 1234 AB).
States add their own details, like where the registration sticker goes. Pick your state under “State requirements” above to see them.
3 in or 4 in letters?
3 in is the legal minimum and fits most small boats and jet skis. 4 in letters are easier to read on bigger hulls.
What do I get?
Two sets of numbers, one for each side of the bow, pre-spaced on clear transfer tape.
How long does it last?
We cut from outdoor vinyl made by Oracal, TeckWrap and Roland. Expect 2–8 years, depending on how much sun and weather it gets. Holographic and chrome finishes may start to fade after about 2 years.
How do I put it on?
- Clean the spot with rubbing alcohol and let it dry. Apply when it's above 50°F.
- Tape the decal in place along its top edge to make a hinge.
- Flip it up, peel off the white backing, and lay it down from the top, pressing firmly with a credit card or plastic card.
- Peel the clear tape back slowly at a sharp angle. If a letter lifts, press it down and try again.
- Wait 24 hours before washing it.
Can I wash it? What about ice?
Yes, once it has had 24 hours to set. Never run an ice scraper directly over the decal.
Can I take it off later?
Yes, it peels off easily. Warm it with a hair dryer first and it comes off even easier.
What can I put it on?
Any smooth, clean surface: glass, painted metal, plastic, laptops, tumblers, toolboxes and walls. It won't stick well to textured surfaces. Once it's on, it handles cold weather.
When will it ship?
Orders ship in 1–2 business days. The designer shows your estimated arrival date, and shipping is free on decal orders over $25.
What if it arrives wrong or damaged?
We remake it for free. See our refund & remake policy.
